Over the past few months I have taken up pen pal relationships with three of my friends. It is amazing the power and joy a handwritten letter carries nowadays!
My pen pals include David, my best friend’s little brother and my pseudo younger brother, who is on a mission in South America so handwritten letters are our only form of communication. Then there is Kate, my best friend from abroad, who writes the most colorful letters using every color pen imaginable and every spare inch of card space. And finally, Jon a dear friend of mine who is in the army and currently serving in Afghanistan.
Finding cute cards for Kate is easy. I usually hit up the Trader Joe’s $0.99 card section which is great if you have not discovered it yet! Some Trader Joe’s stores hide the card section on a wall by the bathroom so make sure to ask if they have one! I usually use basic lined paper when sending David letters so I don’t have to use too much extra postage. The nice thing about sending Jon letters, or anyone in the military, is that you just need the basic U.S. postage amount so I can get more creative with cards. The problem is it can be hard to find manly cards, especially ones that are blank on the inside.
I spotted these American Flag Note Cards by Petite Paperie on Etsy and was tickled that they were not only patriotic but blank on the inside! I was drawn to the bold black and white vintage American flag against the white cardstock. The note card set even comes with matching stickers and tags. I can’t wait to write a letter to Jon using these new cards.
