My roommate and I had a blast in these costumes and they were really cheap to make!
What You Need:
- 2 Red Poster Boards
- Thick Black Pen
- 2 Beaded Necklaces or Ribbon
- Hot Glue Gun
Step 1: Make the Heart
Lay both poster boards next to each other and draw a heart, half of the heart on one poster board and the other half on the other board. Once you are happy with the shape of your heart cut the poster board. Then, lay both sides of the heart together and draw a zig-zag down the center, make sure the zig-zag is big enough to cut out. Then cut the zig-zag portion out of each side of the heart.
Step 2: Write The Message
Lay both sides of the heart next to each other and sketch the words “Best Friends.” Once you are happy with the spacing and size of the letters go over the letters with a thick black marker. If you are uncomfortable free-handing this, you can use stencils or letter stickers from your local craft store.
Step 3: Make the Heart Durable
I would highly recommend having your heart laminated. Having the poster board laminated makes it more sturdy and water resistant. We took our heart to the local copy store and it only cost a few dollars and was worth every penny!
Step 4: Make the Heart Wearable
We used two beaded necklaces to attached the costume. Carefully break the necklace so it is one long strand of beads. Using a hot glue gun attach the necklace to one side of the heart. Repeat for the other side. You can also use ribbon.
