This year for my birthday I decided to throw a Preppy Birthday Brunch. I am a December baby which means most of your birthdays involve some form of winter theme relating to snow or Christmas. So for my 26th birthday I decided to do something a bit more colorful! I decided to host a preppy-themed Vineyard Vines meets Kate Spade meets Lilly Pulitzer kind of birthday party. This was by far one of my favorite birthday parties ever!
I”ll be the first to admit these aren’t the greatest photos, but I had so much fun at this party I wanted to share regardless.
Food always plays a major role at my parties and this birthday was no exception. This photo was taken before the final food items were added, but as you can see there was plenty of food to go around. I made individual sized coffee cakes that were delicious! I served fruit, glazed donut holes, quiche, croissant sandwiches (the pesto, tomato and mozzarella was everyone’s favorite!), tomato caprese skewers, the Berry Salad and so much more. To add some extra color to the table I filled oversized martini glasses with Circus Animal Cookies and colorful marshmallows.
Given the theme of the party I wanted the table to have a lot of color. I used a simple white tablecloth (which I wish I had ironed!) as the canvas to add color to. Kate Spade pink napkins doubled as placemats since the table was too small to accommodate a traditional placemat for each guest. I added a lime and bright green straws to the mason jar water glasses and the party favors brought in the navy color. I stayed with simple white flowers to keep the table from feeling overcrowded and added a few bright tissue fans to the chandelier for more color.
For party favors I knew I wanted to incorporate the Vineyard Vines Whale. I picked up stickers at the local Vineyard Vines stores and used them to decorate clear party favor bags. I wrapped EOS lip balms in navy tissue paper and tied the bag together with bright green ribbon. They were so simple to make and added just the right pop of color to the table. Plus everyone loved their EOS lip balm!
The real star of the birthday party was this incredible mason jar birthday cake! Gelson’s Bakery in Newport Beach has made my birthday cake as long as I can remember and this year was no exception. The head decorator retired last year so I was a bit nervous to have someone new make my cake. I wish I could remember the name of the new decorator to give him a shout out! He did an incredible job with the cake and I love how it turned out! One of my favorite birthday cakes ever!!!
